Hello Sensei Steve Lefebvre
I've been training off and on in budo taijutsu for about 3 years and have only recently gotten series about my training. I've also been bothered by this question, does Taijutsu work? I appreciate your addressing it in your post. However, I pretty much believe that it works in the situation you described: a competitive, bar-room, ego involved altercation. But what I would like to know is will Taijutsu work in a life or death situation. Meaning, the guy doesn't want to punch your lights out, but rather he is going to simply stick his knife in your gut when you are not expecting it and kill you. He doesn't "square-off". He's not looking to impress his girlfriend. He simply wants to kill you as quickly and quietly as possible. Does Taijutsu work in this type of situation? I know you've mentioned that Takamatsu used it in life or death situations, but do you personally know of real people using it to defend their lives or the lives of their loved ones?
Thanks again for your blog post.
